The Interplay of Sacred Land, Time, and Spiritual Discipline

(Sacred Geography)

Jain cosmology divides the habitable world into specific regions called Aryakhandas, where spiritual liberation is possible.

(Jambu Dweep)

(2.5 Islands)

(The 6 Cycles of Time)

Time is cyclical in the Bharat and Airavat regions. We are currently in the 5th Era (पंचम काल) known as Dushama.

(The Role of Aryikas)

The Chaturvidh Sangh consists of Munis, Aryikas, Shravaks, and Shravikas. While Aryikas reside in the 5th Gunasthana, their discipline is exemplary.

Key Distinctions |

(Primary Virtues): Just like Munis, Aryikas observe 28 core vows.
(Food Intake): Unlike Munis who take food standing, Aryikas take food sitting down.
(Clothing): They wear two white sarees for modesty but remain internally detached.

Superiority over Ailak |

An Ailak (an 11th Pratima holder) wears a loincloth with a sense of "possession" (Mamta). In contrast, an Aryika wears a saree strictly for modesty with total mental detachment, making her an Upchar Mahavrati.
