The Strange Request
A Sadhu with a peculiar nature traveled from village to village. His request was strange: he would stand before every house and ask, "Mother! Give me a handful of pearls... God will bless you."
The women were baffled. They mocked him, saying they barely had food to eat, let alone pearls to give. They told him to go to a palace.
The Rejected Jewel
Seeing him leave empty-handed, an old woman felt pity. She offered him the only real pearl she had—from her broken nose ring. However, the Sadhu laughed and rejected it, saying, "Where will I keep this tiny pearl in my torn bag? You keep it." He left the village empty-handed.
The Wise Farmer's Home
In the next village, the Sadhu reached a solitary farmer's house and asked for a "cup of pearls." The farmer welcomed him with great respect, seating him on a clean sheet.
The farmer told his wife, "Lakshmi, the Sadhu is hungry. Take a handful of pearls (grains), grind them, and make rotis. Meanwhile, I will bring a pot full of pearls (water)."
The True Kubera (God of Wealth)
After eating the meal, the Sadhu was delighted. He said he had finally eaten at the home of Kubera (The God of Wealth). When he asked the farmer for "earfuls of pearls" (wisdom/words), the farmer humbly said he was uneducated.
The Sadhu corrected him: "You are the true scholar. You understood that grains of crops and drops of water are the real pearls. A home that values food, water, and hospitality is the true home of wealth."
The Ancient Wisdom
There are only three gems on this Earth: Water, Food, and Wise Words.
Fools consider pieces of stone (diamonds/gold) to be gems.
मूर्ख लोग ही पत्थर के टुकड़ों को रत्न कहते हैं।
